New dry eye study (Study ID: SHEEPDOG)

What are we trying to learn?

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of a single heat treatment called iLux® to reduce dry eye symptoms in participants who wear soft contact lenses. iLux® delivers controlled warmth and pressure to the eyelids to gently unblock the oily glands that produce and deliver oils to the tear film.

About the study

You will wear your habitual contact lenses for the duration of this study. If eligible, you will be asked to follow the study instructions and attend one of the following schedules, depending on which group you are randomly assigned to:

Group A:

  • Visit 1 & 2 (normally both visits are combined) – Screening visit to determine eligibility – (1 hour) and iLux® treatment (0.5 hour)
  • Visit 3 – 1 month follow-up – 1 hour
  • Visit 4 – 3 month follow-up and study exit – 1 hour

Total time commitment – 3.5 hours over 4 visits. Study length – 3 months.

Group B: receives iLux® treatment one month after the screening visit

  • Visit 1 – Screening visit to determine eligibility – 1 hour
  • Visit 2 – 1 month later – assessment & iLux® treatment – 1.5 hours
  • Visit 3 – 1 month follow-up – 1 hour
  • Visit 4 – 3 month follow-up – 0.5 hours

Total time commitment – 4 hours over 4 visits. Study length – 4 months.

The visits will include standard clinical procedures that you might encounter when you attend an eye exam. This study will involve procedures that will touch your eye and eyelids.
